CVT DIAGNOSTIC NOTES / Nissan

Nissan shaking on acceleration? Record the symptoms and check the codes.

A companion to Melvin’s Nissan CVT video, with a symptom checklist and the model limits of Nissan bulletin NTB17-039Q.

Shaking under acceleration is the starting point for an investigation. In this video, Melvin talks through Nissan CVT problems and warning signs. Use these notes to record what your vehicle actually does and to understand the scope of the manufacturer’s judder bulletin.

Make the symptom useful

Write down the year, model, engine, mileage and when the shaking happens. Does it occur on gentle acceleration, only under heavier load, or at a particular road speed? Does it change after the vehicle warms up? Include warning lights, noises and any work recently done. A symptom description alone does not confirm an internal CVT fault.

Save the exact codes before clearing them

Nissan bulletin NTB17-039Q identifies P17F0 as CVT judder with transmission inspection, and P17F1 as CVT judder with control-unit inspection. They lead into a diagnostic procedure; they are not interchangeable instructions to buy a transmission or valve body. Record all stored codes and have the findings checked against the correct service information.

Check the vehicle before applying the bulletin

The December 2023 revision covers specified V6 CVT applications: 2013–2018 Altima, 2016–2022 Maxima, 2015–2022 Murano, 2013–2020 Pathfinder and 2015–2017 Quest. Its Murano coverage does not include a 2013 Murano.

The bulletin requires reported judder and P17F0 or P17F1; it says it does not apply if other DTCs are stored. Check the full applicability and current vehicle-specific information with a qualified technician. Do not transfer its repair flow to another model simply because the symptoms sound similar.
